Next Generation Fire Model
Acronym: NGFM
NGFM is an engineering-level tool that predicts the probability of ballistically induced fires in aircraft dry bays. The first version, released in 2023, uses empirically derived models to assess limited cases of steel fragments against aluminum targets. Successive releases will leverage ongoing research and development efforts, as well as LFT&E programs to expand the tool’s utility for broader threat and target conditions applicable to modern combat engagements. NGFM underpins higher-level codes and addresses the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E) imperative for high-accuracy vulnerability assessments.
